scientifiques qui démontrent que la fluoration de l’eau est indéniablement
inefficace et qu’elle constitue un pari risqué pour la santé
humaine et l’environnement, le Front commun pour une eau saine
appuie sans réserve la demande des 2000+ professionnels du monde
entier, afin de mettre un terme définitif à cette mesure
controversée et obsolète.

- «Il
faut en finir avec la Fluoration», affirment 600 médecins,
dentistes, scientifiques et environnementalistes. Communiqué
de presse: New
York – 9 août 2007 – Dans une déclaration rendue publique
aujourd’hui, plus de 600 professionnels demandent au Congrès des États-Unis de
mettre fin à la fluoration de l’eau, jusqu’à ce que des
audiences soient tenues. Ils
appuient leurs dires sur de nouvelles données scientifiques
probantes qui démontrent que la fluoration, longtemps promue pour
combattre la carie dentaire, est inefficace et qu’elle présente
de sérieux risques
pour la santé. Parmi
les signataires, on retrouve notamment un lauréat du Prix Nobel en
médecine, trois membres du prestigieux panel mandaté par le NRC
(Conseil national de la recherche scientifique des États-Unis) qui
a publié en 2006 un rapport sur la toxicologie du fluorure, deux
membres de la direction du Syndicat des professionnels de l’EPA
(Agence environnementale américaine), le président de la Société
internationale des médecins pour l’environnement et des centaines
de professionnels du monde entier travaillant dans les domaines médical,
dentaire, académique, scientifique et environnemental. Le
Dr. Arvid Carlsson, signataire et Lauréat du Prix Nobel de médecine
en 2000, explique: “La fluoration
va à l’encontre de tous les principes de la pharmacologie
moderne. C’est une pratique désormais obsolète.” Le Dr. Paul Connett, directeur exécutif du réseau international FAN (Fluoride Action Network), soutient que: “Le rapport
du NRC a complètement changé notre compréhension des risques pour
la santé liés à la fluoration de l’eau. Les fonctionnaires qui continuent à promouvoir cette mesure devraient être amenés à témoigner sous serment afin qu’ils
expliquent pourquoi ils s'entêtent à ignorer les données probantes
qui démontrent les effets nocifs et non-équivoques du fluorure sur
la santé.” Il ajoute : “Une
pétition en ligne accompagnant la déclaration et destinée à être
envoyée au Congrès sera bientôt disponible sur le site web du
réseau FAN.”

un procureur général de l’État de New York, ce rapport est
“le document spécialisé le plus à jour, une référence

La nouvelle politique de l'Association dentaire américaine qui
recommande que les parents évitent l'eau fluorée dans les préparations
destinée aux bébés. --
L’aveu du CDC, qui concède que le ‘bénéfice’ du fluorure
est principalement topique et non pas systémique.
Bref, il serait inutile d’en ingérer. --
Les données du CDC qui démontrent que la fluorose dentaire, causée
par un excès de fluorure, affecte maintenant le tiers des enfants
américains. --
Des études approfondies indiquant qu’il y a très peu de différence
entre les taux de carie dentaire dans les collectivités fluorées
et non fluorées. --
Une étude exhaustive menée à l’Université de Harvard, qui a
trouvé un lien entre la fluoration de l’eau et le cancer des os. --
Le fait que les silicofluorures, les substances ajoutées à l’eau
potable pour la fluoration, sont des résidus industriels contaminés.
Qui plus est, la FDA n’a jamais approuvé leur utilisation pour
l’ingestion humaine. L’Environmental
Working Group (EWG) est l’organisation de veille environnementale
basée à Washington qui a révélé qu’un chercheur de Harvard
avait caché pendant trois ans un lien de causalité entre la
fluoration et le cancer des os. Ken Cook, président d’EGW énonce:
“Il est temps de reconnaître que la
fluoration représente de sérieux risques pour la santé, puisque
des inconvénients
majeurs l'emportent largement sur de minuscules bénéfices.
Contrairement aux autres problèmes environnementaux, la solution
est simple, il suffit de fermer les valves à l’usine d’eau

AOÛT 2007 Nous
tous, professionnels soussignés, en dépit du fait que nous
provenons de disciplines diverses, avons le souci constant de
veiller à ce que les politiques gouvernementales en matière de
santé publique et d’environnement soient déterminées honnêtement,
en portant une attention toute particulière aux plus récentes
recherches scientifiques et aux principes de l’éthique. Huit
événements récents appellent à la cessation urgente de la
fluoration de l’eau. 1. En 2006, la publication d’une revue de la littérature de 500 pages sur la toxicologie des fluorures par un panel d’experts mandatés par le NRC (Conseil national de la recherche scientifique des États-Unis) (NRC, 2006). Le rapport du NRC a conclu que la concentration maximale autorisée par l’EPA, concentration dite ‘sécuritaire’*, de fluorure dans l’eau de consommation de 4 parties par million (ppm) n’est pas sécuritaire en réalité et qu’elle devrait être abaissée**. Malgré le recours à la fluoration depuis plus de soixante ans, ce rapport met en évidence plusieurs questions restées sans réponse relatives à la recherche fondamentale. Ainsi, le panel a examiné un large éventail de publications scientifiques dans lesquelles on a trouvé un lien statistiquement significatif entre le fluorure et toute une série d’effets néfastes pour la santé: augmentation du risque de fracture osseuse, réduction de la fonction thyroïdienne, réduction du quotient intellectuel (QI), condition apparentée à l’arthrite, fluorose dentaire et, possiblement, ostéosarcome (cancer des os). *
La concentration maximale visée d’un contaminant, en anglais Maximum Contaminant Level Goal ou
MCLG * * Au Canada, cette norme est fixée à 1.5
ppm. L’apport quotidien moyen en fluorure*** associé à plusieurs de ces effets néfastes, est déjà atteint par un vaste segment de la population consommant de l’eau fluorée, à des concentrations dites ‘sécuritaires’ - particulièrement les jeunes enfants, ceux qui boivent plus d’eau que la moyenne, les diabétiques, les personnes souffrant de fonction rénale réduite et les autres sous-groupes vulnérables. Par exemple, l’apport quotidien moyen en fluorure associé à une fonction thyroïdienne réduite chez les personnes ayant une déficience en iode (environ 12 % de la population américaine) est déjà atteint par les jeunes enfants qui consomment normalement de l’eau fluorée à 1 ppm et par les gens de tout âge ou de tout poids qui consomment de l’eau à concentration plus élevée en fluorure. Fait notable, une étude animale a révélé que les rats buvant de l’eau à 1 ppm de fluorure souffraient de niveaux élevés d’aluminium dans le cerveau avec présence de plaques protéiques bêta-amyloïdes, ce qui est, soulignons-le, un marqueur classique de la pathologie de la maladie d’Alzheimer chez l’être humain. Considérant les variations importantes de la consommation individuelle d’eau, l’apport en fluorure provenant de sources diverses, l’accumulation du fluorure dans les os et les tissus et l’écart très grand de sensibilité des êtres humains face à toute les substance toxiques, la fluoration n’offre AUCUNE marge de sécurité adéquate pour prévenir les effets néfastes, particulièrement dans le cas d’une fonction thyroïdienne réduite. ***L’apport
quotidien tient compte du poids corporel de
l’individu exposé et est mesuré en mg de fluorure par kilogramme
de poids. 2.
La preuve fournie en 2005 par le CDC (US Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention) qui démontre que 32% des enfants américains
sont atteints de fluorose dentaire (décoloration ou marbrure de
l’émail). Cette
maladie irréversible, parfois très inesthétique, est causée par
un excès de fluorure. Même
dans les régions non fluorées, les enfants sont présentement
surexposés aux fluorure, car les sources de fluorure sont
multiples: eau, ingestion de dentifrice, aliments et breuvages
multiples préparés avec de l’eau fluorée, etc.
L’eau fluorée est la source la plus facile à éliminer. 3.
En novembre 2006, le changement de politique de l’Association
dentaire américaine, qui ne recommande plus que certains types
d’eau pour la préparation du lait maternisé des bébés âgés
de moins d’un an : une eau « purifiée, distillée, déminéralisée
ou filtrée par osmose inverse».
Cette nouvelle politique, qui exclut l’emploi de
l’eau fluorée du robinet, a été adoptée afin de prévenir
un apport trop élevé de fluorure chez les bébés et pour réduire
les risques de fluorose dentaire. Le fardeau financier que cela représente
pour les familles à faibles revenu, est, à lui seul, une raison
suffisante pour mettre immédiatement fin à la fluoration. En fait,
le lait maternisé préparé avec de l’eau fluorée contient 250
fois plus de fluorure que le lait maternel des régions non fluorées,
dont la concentration moyenne observée n’est que de 0.004 ppm
(Tableau 2-6, NRC, 2006). 4.
La concession du CDC, en 1999 et en 20001, selon laquelle
le bénéfice du fluorure dans la réduction de la carie dentaire
est principalement TOPIQUE et non SYSTÉMIQUE.
Bref, dans la mesure où le fluorure parviendrait à réduire
la carie dentaire, il agirait uniquement lorsqu’il est appliqué
à l’extérieur de la dent, et non pas à partir de l’intérieur
du corps. Il serait donc illogique d’en ingérer et d’exposer
ainsi l’organisme entier à tous les risques à long terme qui
sont associés à l’ingestion du fluorure, surtout à notre époque
où les dentifrices fluorés sont facilement accessibles. Le
mécanisme d’action topique du fluorure explique probablement
pourquoi, depuis les années quatre-vingt,
plusieurs études indiquent une faible différence entre les taux de
carie dentaire des communautés fluorées et non fluorées (Leverett,
1982; Colquhoun, 1984; 1985 and 1987; Diesendorf, 1986; Gray, 1987;
Brunelle and Carlos, 1990; Spencer,1996; deLiefde, 1998; Locker,
1999; Armfield and Spencer, 2004; and Pizzo 2007 - voir les références).
En fait, c’est la pauvreté (et non pas une ‘déficience’
en fluorure ingéré) qui est le facteur le plus fortement lié à
la présence de la carie dentaire.
Selon l’Organisation mondiale de la santé, les dents des
enfants (âgés de douze ans) des pays non fluorés sont aussi
saines, sinon plus saines, que celle des enfants des pays fluorés.
Cela est vrai dans tous les pays industrialisés (Neurath, 2005). 6.
En mai 2006, la publication d’une étude avec comité de lecture de
l’Université de Harvard, qui a trouvé que les jeunes garçons
buvant de l’eau fluorée sont de 3 à 7 fois plus souvent frappés par l’ostéosarcome (cancer des os généralement
mortel) lorsqu’ils sont âgés entre 6 et 8 ans (Bassin et
al., 2006). Fait notable, cette étude est entachée d’un
scandale, au centre duquel se trouve le Dr Chester Douglass,
directeur de thèse de la doctorante Elise Bassin. Douglass a été
accusé de fraude scientifique par le groupe environnemental EWG (Environmental
Working Group) alors qu’il aurait tenté de camoufler pendant
trois ans les résultats de l’étude. Bien que cette étude ne
puisse prouver hors de tout doute la relation de causalité entre le
fluorure et le cancer, la force probante de la preuve et
l’importance du risque exigent que l’on s’y attarde. Nous lançons un appel aux membres des professions médicale et dentaire,
aux professionnels des
services de distribution d’eau potable, aux fonctionnaires locaux,
aux organisation de santé publique, aux groupes environnementaux et
aux médias afin qu’ils adoptent une pensée critique et qu’ils examinent par eux-même
les nouvelles données qui indiquent que la fluoration de l’eau
est non seulement inefficace, mais qu’elle pose de sérieux
risques pour la santé. Il n’est plus acceptable de se fier aux
seules approbations issues d’agences qui s’entêtent à ignorer
le large éventail de données scientifiques en la matière—tout
particulièrement l’analyse approfondie présentée dans le
rapport du NRC de 2006, rapport mentionné plus haut. Les
millions de dollars qui sont actuellement dépensés en équipements,
produits chimiques, surveillance et promotion de la fluoration
peuvent désormais être beaucoup mieux investis, pour l’éducation
à de saines habitudes alimentaires et pour des soins dentaires ciblés
destinés aux enfants
de milieux défavorisés. Cela,
une très grande majorité de pays l’a déjà parfaitement
compris. Il est grand temps, pour les États-Unis et pour une minorité de pays qui continuent à fluorer l’eau potable, de reconnaître que la fluoration est une mesure obsolète, qu’elle viole l’éthique médicale sérieuse, qu’elle brime la liberté de choix et qu’elle présente de sérieux risques pour la santé. Ces risques l'emportent largement sur de minuscules bénéfices. Dès maintenant, il faut mettre fin à la fluoration. ______________________________
